The Math Team placed 4th overall at the State Competition on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
The team, led by Mr. Owen Glennon, placed 5th after Regionals and they moved up to 4th after State competition.
“It felt pretty good, knowing that all of our accomplishments and all of our practices really paid off well,” says Ethan Froylan, a member of the team.
The first three places in order were earned by Glenbrook North, University of Chicago Lab School, and Vernon Hills. No other Catholic school in the near upper level division qualified for State. Benet qualified a partial team and so were the closest Catholic school to Marist, placing 24th.
“In the end, all the countless practices every day after school, and all the hard work, everyone on the math team, did an anticipation for the competition at state,” said Froylan. “It felt really rewarding.”
“Knowing that we were one of the best in Illinois gave me and the math team a sense of pride as to how we represented Marist,” said Kenneth Dewes, 7th place Algebra II winner. “Winning that award felt surreal because I knew I was a part of such a skilled team.”
