With the 2025-2026 school year coming to a close, both the Marist boys and girls wrestling teams celebrate a historic season of success and impressive wins.
“We all have put so much effort into our practices and previous meets to become better athletes and wrestlers,” says senior Izzy Locastio.
Overall with both teams combined they achieved stately achievements.
For the girls team, junior Ava Enright and senior Sarah Parker both made it to state for the first time with Enright placing sixth for her weight class. This marks the first time an athlete has placed for the girls wrestling team.
“State was such a fun experience to be at and I was really proud of how far me and my team were able to get this year,” says Parker.
With the girls achievements from this season they will continue to work on their skills and become a stronger team. This includes the incoming seniors taking a bigger role into how they want to shape their team.
“I’m insanely proud of my teammates and graduating seniors,” says junior Abby Parker.” “I know that I’m really excited to step up as a leader with my fellow seniors to keep helping the team to succeed in the future.”
For the graduating seniors both Shae Halleran and Sarah Parker have committed to their schools of choice to continue wrestling in college. Halleran has committed to Elmhurst University and Parker has committed to St. Ambrose University.
“I’m excited to continue my athletic career at Elmhurst. My coaches and teammates have been like a second family to me,” says Halleran.
The boys team sent six wrestlers to state: Axel Rodriguez, Elio Gil, Ethan Sonne, Jaxson Jorgesen, Tommy Fidler, and Te’Jon Beals, with two of them placing for titles. Sonne placed first for his respective weight class and Fidler placed sixth for his weight class. This is the first time for both athletes to place.
The coaches have put years of work into training the now seniors and will continue to do so for the upcoming athletes.
