Artist Spotlight: Adele

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins is an English singer and songwriter that was born on May 5th, 1988, in Tottenham, North London. Adele has always loved singing, especially contemporary pop music.

Adele learned how to play the guitar and the clarinet when she was a teenager, but didn’t take it seriously until she discovered rhythm and blues singer Etta James.  While she was in secondary school for performing arts, her friend recorded Adele singing and uploaded it to the website MySpace.

Eventually, Adele received the attention of record labels. In 2006, she signed with XL Recordings

Her first album 19 was released in 2008 featuring her first hit Chasing Pavements. From there, her success continued into 2011 when she released her second album 21.

In 2009, Adele received her first two Grammys for best new artist and best female pop vocal performance for her hit song, Chasing Pavements.

Adele’s newest album 30 was released on November 19, 2021, featuring her most popular song on that album, Easy on Me. The hit received a record number of 24 million streams on the day it was released.

In 2021, Adele starred in a television program called, Adele One Night Only.  In this show she sits down and talks with Oprah Winfrey about her new album, the story behind the songs, life after her divorce, weight loss, and raising her son.

Today, Adele has a total of four albums, 16 Grammy Awards, 18 Billboard Music Awards, five American Music Awards, and two Ivor Novello Awards for Songwriter of the Year.

Adele continues to grow as an artist and has a widespread group of fans.
