It’s okay to not be okay sometimes, but there are way to navigate through the struggle. Mental health plays a big role in life, and it’s important to acknowledge it and to take care of it. Here are five mental health hacks to quickly improve someone’s mood.
1. Exercise
Exercising releases feel-good endorphins, which are hormones that are released when feeling pain or stress. It’s important to keep the body energized because if the body feels good, the students will also be in a better mood.
“Taking care of your body matters because you feel good about yourself,” says counselor Curtis Jones.
2. Self-care
Engaging in new hobbies to take care of oneself equals personal growth. The self-esteem in students will increase, which will give them more confidence to participate mentally and physically in school. It gets their mindset ready to power through classwork.
“Once I take care of my body, I take care of my mindset,” says freshman Izel Guzman.
3. Being Social
It’s always important to have emotional support through friends or family members because people need to talkabout their feelings with someone they trust.
“My family brings my mood up, because they make me feel loved and cared for,” said Guzman.
Spending time with friends or family also provides a good distraction, rather than being stuck at home and feeling bored.
“Being out with friends gives good feelings and vibes,” says Jones.
4. Spending Time Outside
The outdoors represents a great feeling of freedom and peace. The positive energy can bring happiness.
“Nature brings joy because it’s a form of life,” says Guzman.
Being connected with nature brings positive thoughts to the mind and gets the happy energy running through the body.
“Nature brings good thoughts and feelings to a person,” says Jones.
5. Rest
Students often lack energy during school. That could be because of a lack of sleep. It’s important that students get their eight hours of sleep in order to feel 100% ready and prepared for the day.
“You wake up more energized, your body and mind are all in place, making you feel more motivated,” says Guzman.
