Marist alum Pat Coogan has signed with CHISOX Athlete as the Chicago White Sox prepare to introduce and celebrate college athletes from the Chicagoland area.

A few months ago, Coogan was contacted about joining the CHISOX Athlete Class of 2024. CHISOX Athlete is a White Sox NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) program created to celebrate student athletes through marketing deals to financially support their careers. The Class of 2024 consists of nine new members as well as three returning athletes.

“I was very happy and excited that the White Sox reached out to me! It was very surprising,” said Coogan. “We started communicating through email and set up a zoom call.”

Coogan is the son of Mike and Mary Beth Coogan. He has three siblings, Michael (2017), Megan (2019), and Brigid (2025). Each attend(ed) Marist. Coogan was best known for his tall stature, determination and exceptional athleticism. He was most often seen on the baseball and football field.

“Pat was one of the most talented players I’ve had the privilege to coach,” said Coach Dawczak. “His skill set made him one of the most sought after offensive lineman in the Midwest going into his senior season at Marist.”

Coogan graduated in 2021. He received several full ride scholarships to Ivy League colleges. After careful consideration he chose Notre Dame University. He’s not only receiving an exceptional education, but starting on the field as offensive lineman.

“It has been my dream to go to school here [Notre Dame] since I was a little kid,” said Coogan. “It has opened numerous doors for me…the experience has truly shaped me into the man I am today.”

Athletes will receive a professional photoshoot, a personalized jersey/merch and several financial incentives. Not to mention, each college kid will get the great honor of throwing out the first pitch during a summer season game. Their families and friends will be cared for in their personal one-day suite as they watch the game.

The Coogan family was just as excited as the Marist community at the incredible once in a lifetime opportunity.

“He has been a huge fan of baseball his entire life,” said his sister Megan. “We thought it was super cool.. it’s a great opportunity.”

Even though Notre Dame is where Coogan will play, he cannot thank Marist enough for all the memories and love it’s shown him during his four years.

“I love Marist and am a proud alum. I had a great four years and met great people,” said Coogan. “It has set me up…academically and athletically. The diversity… presents a unique opportunity to learn and grow as an individual.”

Coogan excelled in the classroom and on the field, but always managed to spare a moment or a couple hours for his friends.

“Playing with Coogs was awesome,” said friend Jack Harmon (2021). “He was so talented… a great leader.”

“I’m super excited…I can’t wait to cheer him on for this first pitch!!” said girlfriend, Sarah Skalitzky (2021). “Pat is strong, hardworking, confident, and very thoughtful.”

Even though Coogan is doing pretty well for himself, his family and friends are always there, supplying him with advice, support, or a simple joke.

“Continue to do the things he has done,” said Dawczak. “The sky’s the limit”

“Never take anything for granted,” said Skalitzky. “Life is too short.”

“Warm up your pitching arm,” said Megan on behalf of the entire Coogan Family.

His first pitch game is yet to be announced, but further information on CHISOX Athlete can be found at the White Sox’s website.
