Marist students and faculty will gather in the main gymnasium for Ash Wednesday Mass, marking the start of the Lenten season with a service and the distribution of ashes.
Lent is the 40-day season of preparation leading to Easter Sunday. During this time, Catholics will recount the final days of Jesus Christ’s life. This is considered a sacred time approaching the most holy day of the year.
“[Lent is] a time to reflect and look into themselves to better yourself and help others,” said Campus Minister Colleen Coyne.
Catholics all over the world are challenged to give something up or perform small acts of kindness.
“I will be giving up pop, but I will also be doing a 30-minute walk a day while praying the rosary,” said senior Ava Krueger.
Classes will be shortened to 30 minutes to accommodate the service during the middle of the school day.
