Students were asked in a poll what they think is the most important meal of the day and out of the three, breakfast had the least support. However, this often over-looked meal has a significant impact on factors such as mood, productivity, and focus.

Why Breakfast is Important
The same poll reveals 51.4% of students do not eat breakfast, while 48.6% do. This is a major concern because it impacts important factors like physical development, mental health, energy, and academic success.
By eating breakfast kids are less likely to become overweight. The reason being it helps them to not binge later in the day because they aren’t starving by the time they get to lunch or home after school.
It promotes more productivity and energy in school. Most students are involved in extracurricular activities and on top of that homework, which can cut into sleep time. It is important to fuel in the best ways so work can get done productively.
Breakfast also benefits academic achievement because it improves concentration during the day. Nobody likes to be sitting in class with their stomach growling, and anxiously waiting for lunch. It makes it hard to pay attention and overall makes workloads harder.
Fitting Breakfast Into Morning Routines
Another poll asked students who did not eat breakfast why they chose not to. Over 70.8% of those surveyed said that they did not have enough time in the morning.
Understandably, it might seem like it takes up a lot of time, but setting aside ten minutes is all you need to squeeze in a small meal.
If preparation is a concern, having your breakfast ready to go the night before can also be a time saver. You can even take it on the go to school.
Once you start getting into the habit of making breakfast every morning, you will adjust and it will become part of your routine. It might seem daunting at first, but this habit will show positive results.
How to Have a Balanced Breakfast
Truth be told, a doughnut is not going to be an effective meal to start your day. It is more ideal to balance things, like whole grains, protein, and fruits or vegetables that have less sugar.
Some easy things for when you’re on the go are smoothies, yogurt, oatmeal, or breakfast sandwiches. These are perfect for early mornings because they are super easy to make and don’t require extensive preparation or ingredients, but still help to give sustained energy.
