Marist Youth is collecting food items in all religion classes through November 24 for St. Anthony of Padua, Worth Township Food Pantry, and Pat’s Pantry.
Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to donate non-perishable items such as canned fruits and veggies, boxed desserts and more, even a small box can make an impact.
Each religion teacher is collecting a specific type of food in an effort to encourage more students to participate.
When students donate, it gives the Marist body a sense of unity.
“I think it’s important for us to remember how much we all have and that we are so fortunate not to have to wonder if we will have food on the table,” said Susan Carlson, a teacher who donated. “For some people that is not their reality, and they struggle with basic necessities that we can often take for granted.”
In this time, especially, many households in the area are facing real life challenges. This drive is an opportunity for the Marist body to help step up and take responsibility.
There will be consistent reminders through the morning announcements, Campus Ministry Canvas page, a slide in the cafeteria, and on the Marist Instagram page.
At Marist, students understand how important it is to put others first.
“I’m just thankful that I get to have food at home,” said junior Kevin Curley. “It’s rewarding to know your donation helps others.”
The collected goods will be delivered to the three pantries after school November 24.
