Girls Volleyball Returns to State

The RedHawks girls volleyball team is headed back to the IHSA State Finals for the second straight year, ready to defend their Class 4A state championship title at Cefcu Arena at Illinois State University this weekend.

The team currently boasts a 34-5 record and is ranked #17 nationally by MaxPreps in the National Girls Volleyball Rankings. The RedHawks have been playing some of their best volleyball all season and have not lost a set in a month.

The girls will take on Fremd in the state semifinal at 8:30 p.m. Friday. A victory would send them back to the Saturday state title match at 8:55 p.m., giving the athletes a chance to cap off another incredible season.

Before hitting the road for the state series, the team was escorted through the halls by the drum line, a school tradition that takes place when any team qualifies for state.

Many students and families are looking forward to making the trip down to Bloomington to watch the team chase another title.

For students looking to attend the games, there is a fan bus available leaving from Marist Friday and Saturday. The theme is white out, so fans are encouraged to dress in white and be ready to cheer on the RedHawks

I am a senior taking Journalism 2 and I am the co-editor of the sports section on the website. I am a 4-year member of the volleyball program, a state champion as a junior, and I am a two-year member in the National Honor Society. After my time at Marist I plan to go to college and enroll in flight school to work towards my dream job of becoming a commercial airline pilot. In my free time I enjoy watching sports and golfing with friends when the weather allows.

I am a senior here at Marist High School. I am the head manager on our Varsity Football, Varsity Basketball, and Varsity Baseball teams, the PA Announcer for a large amount of the sports here at Marist, a member of the Student Council, National Honors Society, and a Student Ambassador Officer. I am enrolled in both our journalism and broadcasting classes. I love music, sports, and hanging with friends. After high school, I plan on attending Butler University in Indianapolis majoring in journalism, and then either working as a sports reporter or as a sports announcer.
