Twilight is a movie that makes me cringe and laugh at the same time. I’ve watched it a million times and yet, I can’t get enough of it. It is a typical fantasy romcom, with a strange surprise. So hold on to your seats, or as they say in the Twilight saga, “Hold on tight, spider monkey.”
The plot follows the main character, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) moving to the rainy city of Forks, Washington to live with her father Charlie Swan (Billy Burke). She then meets a mysterious man, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), who falls in love with her, but has his own little secret. The story continues with their romance and while they have their challenges, they, of course, live happily ever after. Well, at least till the second movie.
I think the plot is good, but very predictable. They are high school teenagers in the early 2000s – what did we expect? Of course he is going to be the guy that everybody wants, but only she can have and then they fall in love. It’s romcom movie magic.
The movie includes some of the funniest lines in cinematic history, in my humble opinion, but they can also make a person want to cringe their way to the skip button.
“You are like my own personal brand of heroin” is one of those quotes that almost make you want to giggle or shut off the TV and it’s very hard to figure out which one a person should do.
In terms of the set, the scenes are very deliberate and include various props that enhance the scene. For example, the Cullen family doesn’t eat real food, but because they are in high school and trying to act normal, they all have little cafeteria trays of food. It gives the film a more realistic idea of high school life. While the actors don’t look to be 17, the directors did a terrific job at making it seem more realistic.
Twilight is a movie that can be enjoyed by the masses. It is geared more towards high school students, especially girls, but the slow burn romance and various jokes and references can be entertaining for the early adult audience as well.
I watched the movie for the first time with my friend shortly after finishing the book. I was already hooked on the book series and then I saw Edward Cullen’s silky hair and diamond-like skin and fell in love. I think I watched it every day for a week after my first screening.
This movie deserves a 4 on the 5 RedHawk scale because the film has a really developed plot, amazing scenery, and the funniest of dialogue. It may not quite meet high expectations set by reading the book, but the movie definitely comes in a close second place.
Twilight can be viewed on Pluto TV, Disney+, and Hulu and can also be bought on various platforms. The film is very accessible and a go-to movie choice of mine.
The only question left to answer, based on the classic debate – who will you choose: Team Edward or Team Jacob?
