Hamilton is a life changing musical, that once you get into, you’ll never get the songs out of your head. This musical has you laughing at some scenes, and crying at others.
You can find this musical on Disney+, Roku, and Chromecast. You could also buy tickets to see the play in its original venue in New York. It will also be available in Chicago theaters in May, 2026. This musical is definitely one of my favorites and top recommendations.
The musical lasts two hours and forty-five minutes, along with a five minute intermission. It’s best if you watch the whole play in one sitting, so I’d suggest you’d only watch it if you’ve got free time.
This musical would appeal to anyone who’s got a love for music and history. I wouldn’t suggest you have a younger sibling watch it, since it’s rated PG-13 for language and adult themes.
Hamilton is a story about Alexander Hamilton’s (Lin-Manuel Miranda) later life and impacts through the Revolutionary War and the period after, with the whole story mainly taking place in New York.
I love this musical so much, whether it was the beautiful soundtrack, the stunning outfit designs, or the main cast’s wonderful voices, everything about this play seems to be perfect.
The outfits worn by the actors and ensemble make you feel like you were transported back to the late 18th century. The stage also adds on to that feeling. For being a play stuck to one stage, they manage to make each scene feel like a whole different place. This is thanks to the lighting and the ensemble acting in the background.
While watching Hamilton, I was always interested in what was happening on stage. Each new song and character interaction kept me engaged, and I loved every second of it.
Sure, I had some songs I preferred over others, but even I have to admit that each song was written and performed beautifully. I can really say these actors have some lungs, with all the different high notes and long raps each character sang.
Another thing that kept me interested was all the different music genres used. Most of the songs are told through a hip-hop and rap blend, yet others have a more specific genre. For example, a song sung later in the musical to announce Thomas Jefferson’s (David Diggs) arrival What’d I Miss, has elements of jazz incorporated into it.
Ever since my first time watching Hamilton, I’ve been obsessed with this musical. At first, I was only mildly interested, but my friends told me to give it a rewatch. I started watching it more and more, and before I even knew, I couldn’t put down my remote! Everyone I’ve seen this with can agree, Hamilton is definitely worth the watch.
Out of 5 RedHawks, I would give this musical a perfect 5. This will always be one of, if not my favorite musical to binge watch when I have free time.
