Many public and private universities have a deadline of November 1 for early decision and early action admissions and seniors at Marist High School are feeling the pressure.
“It’s hard to not think about the deadlines. I feel like I have to work extra hard to meet the requirements for all my schools,” said senior Ellie Madden.
Many seniors feel the stress of having to apply to competitive schools with strict standards while also having to complete the daily tasks of school work and homework.
“Having to balance extracurriculars, homework, AP classes, work, and my own personal life it gets really difficult, stressful, and time consuming to have the motivation to finish all of my work,” said Madden.
While some schools have different deadlines spread throughout the year, the college counselors have urged students to finish their essays and transcripts to make sure they can send their applications on time.
“Especially with my major of nursing I’ve had to do more work with my applications like extra essays, and trying to apply for multiple scholarships,” said Madden.
Students have been working on their applications for colleges since the start of the school year., that includes their brag sheets, Common App, Scoir, and scheduling time for college visits.
“Even though I am really excited for college and the next part of my life, It’s also been stressful with some of my classes and extracurriculars, especially with wrestling and AP Literature,” said senior Izzy Locastio.
These stresses are at their peak as students have to balance getting in their admissions by the due date and wanting to celebrate Halloween with friends.
“I am especially trying to make it to the deadline as soon as possible because I want to enjoy my Halloween,” said Madden. “I have plans to spend the holiday with my friends and I want to do that without having to worry about college.
Many students have tried to manage their assignments and extracurricular activities so as to not procrastinate and pile on more stress in their already busy school schedules.
“Ever since around mid-October the realization of applying schools has become really important for me and now I’ve been really trying to take control of my assignments and follow through on all of my assignments and responsibilities,” said Madden.
“While the whole process had been lengthy and sometimes even confusing I’ve really tried to manage all the work the best I can,” said Locastio.
