Maristpalooza one-up’d homecoming night from last year with many students welcoming the changes, including me. From better organization, to new additions like food options, and expanded spaces, it means much more to look forward to for next year.
This year instead of entering through the main gym doors and signing in via email, you went in through the small gym doors where you just signed in with your name.
As soon as I walked in, I could see obvious changes. For the first time, there were two dance floors available. With two gyms and more of a ‘dance feeling’ with the lights off in the cafeteria, it was more comfortable for the students.
Two dance floors means two DJ’s, who were both quite enjoyable. Almost everyone was jumping around and having a good time rather than just sitting on their phones. The new layout of the gym was different but was something that I think made hoco a little more enjoyable.
Another well known highlight was the addition of food, which was a huge hit. It was a simple change but was welcomed by lots of students.
Last year, we were given small water bottles and a cup of skittles per table. This homecoming included chicken tenders, fries, tater tots, and jugs of water which gave people a chance to sit down and recharge.
Speaking of sitting down, can we talk about how relieving it was to have a chance to just relax and talk for a little while and still be included in the fun with music? Homecoming last year didn’t provide that option.
What stood out most was the overall energy and the amount of obvious work that was put into this year’s theme. Maristpalooza wasn’t just a dance, it was an experience that was all inclusive and seeing the improvements made homecoming a little bit more enjoyable this year.
Everything just felt more fun this year. The music was well organized, the decorations were amazing, props for the theme itself, and for the pictures.
From a student’s perspective, I could see how much more work was put towards the dance, which leaves me excited for what’s to come next year.
