The Marist Math Lab is an academic tool that provides tutoring support for optimal learning success. The lab is open during all lunch periods in an attempt to make it accessible to anyone who needs a little extra help.
“I go to the Math Lab to get help for future tests and quizzes coming up. It’s also helpful if I miss school work when I am absent and need to catch up in my classes,” said senior Ellie Madden. “When I go to the Math Lab to study for my tests I usually see an increase in my test scores and understanding. The NHS students there are very helpful with study options.”
The Math Lab is staffed by a math teacher, in addition to National Honor Society members who can provide tutoring in other subject areas as well.
“What I really enjoy about the Math Lab is the help I can give for others. Math can be very difficult to learn especially when everyone is on different levels but there is always a teacher in the room that I can look to for a reminder or answer to any questions,” said NHS member Sarah Shefsick.
Many struggling students have yet to take advantage of this free resource.
“When we help other students at the math lab, we really try to make it a nonjudgmental and productive space for everyone. Students and teachers alike think it’s very helpful. The Math lab shouldn’t be embarrassing to get help and 100 percent students should go there more,” said Shefsick.
The Math Lab is not the only tutoring available.
The RedHawk Resource Room, located in MH 12, provides individual opportunities for academic growth, and is available for all students from any grade level. The Resource Room is open Monday through Friday, 3:00 to 3:45 p.m.
“I definitely think Marist offers lots of support. It feels like everyday at every hour there’s something available for us students. Even if there isn’t, there are so many teachers who are willing to help,” said Shefsick.
