On Friday, September 5, the Marist High School sophomore football team played Brother Rice at home. The RedHawks fought hard, but lost 35–0 in front of their fans.
Brother Rice scored quickly in the first quarter and kept control of the game. Their defense stopped Marist from moving the ball, and turnovers gave the Crusaders more chances to score. By half-time, Brother Rice had a big lead, and Marist could not find a way to come back in the second half.
Even though the scoreboard shows a tough loss, there were still good moments for Marist.
“My favorite play is when Chase Tylka caught the deep post and ran for a couple yards,” freshman player C.J Davis says.
The play demonstrates the team’s ability to connect and make gains, even against a strong defense.
“We fought hard despite being down most of the game,” sophomore coach Curtis Jones says.
The rivalry between Marist and Brother Rice always brings excitement, and this game was no different. While the RedHawks didn’t come away with a win, they gained experience that can help them improve for the rest of the season.
The team plans to take the lessons from this loss into practice and focus on teamwork, energy, and execution. Their goal is to turn effort into wins and show growth as the season continues.
The Marist sophomore football team will return to the field Friday, October 3 at Providence Catholic High School, hoping to bounce back and earn a victory.
