Students don’t normally get to see their teachers bust a move in front of the whole school, but now they have a chance.
The Marist dance team is hosting their annual fundraiser during all lunch periods for the remainder of the week to raise money for their program.
The team is set up in the middle of the cafeteria taking one dollar donations from students in exchange for a vote towards what teacher they would like to see dance at next week’s assembly on October 10.
To make things even more exciting, there is no limitation on the number of times a student can vote, meaning students with a few extra dollars can boost the chances of seeing their favorite teacher hit the floor.
“If you really want to see Mr. Glennon dance you can pay 20 dollars and then get 20 votes,” said dance team coach Ms. Claire Kelly.
In the past, this activity has been a hit with students.
“Personally seeing teachers dance at the pep rally shows a teacher’s personality that many students don’t see throughout the school day…. It brightens the mood and gives everyone a good laugh,” said senior Jacklyn Pigatto.
If a teacher would rather keep their dance moves private, they can “buy their freedom” by paying to excuse themselves from the performance.
“Teachers can pay money to opt out of having to dance at the rally,” said Kelly.
“We want to raise as much money as we did last year, so come see me at lunch and vote,” said senior dance team member Annie Tortorello.
