Marist High School hosted its annual Back to School Night on campus Thursday, September 4. Parents of students from all four grade levels were welcomed to walk through their children’s schedules and meet their teachers.
“We just had 10 minutes, and it was basically introductions, teachers introducing themselves to the parents and then talking about a brief overview of what the subjects are that we will be focusing on this school year in any particular class,” says communications teacher Mrs. Susan Carlson.
Classes started at 6:30 p.m. and ran until 8:30 p.m..
Freshman parent Jenn Bjork says, “It was difficult to find classes because I am unfamiliar with the building, especially rooms labeled MH and CS. However, the students and staff members in the halls were very helpful.”
Teachers took this opportunity to not just inform parents, but to connect with them on a deeper level.
“We want them to feel comforted that teachers care about their kids, they’re in a really positive place to learn and to grow spiritually and academically,” Carlson says.
“I appreciated the opportunity to not only meet each of my child’s teachers, but to also see the classrooms where he spends each day because it gives more insight into his experience,” Bjork says. “This event confirmed my belief that Marist was the right decision.”
After the classes, freshmen parents had the opportunity to meet in the Tribute Room from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to socialize with other Marist families.
