As the curtain closes on the 2024–2025 school year, the Marist High School band wraps up one of its most memorable. With performing at football games, the Christmas Mass, walking in the South Side Irish parade, and even going to Hawaii to perform, this year was marked by standout performances, prestigious travel opportunities, and a deep sense of camaraderie among its members.
Under the direction of Mr. Andrew Creagh, the RedHawks band played with heart, discipline, and flair from the first fall football game to their final notes at the Jazz Concert on May 1.
Their accomplishments stretched far beyond the walls of the band room this year, with a show-stopping trip to Hawaii standing as a highlight that will echo for years to come.
“My favorite memory of this year was doing the drum circle in front of the U.S.S. Missouri with the mountains in the back is something I will never forget,” said band member Michael Pursel.
This spring, the Marist band had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to Honolulu, where they performed as part of the Vietnam Veterans’ Day Parade.
“Hawaii was the trip of a lifetime. I got to stay with my best friends for a week and got to experience everything I wanted to,” said Pursel.
The band represented Marist with pride during their performance at Pearl Harbor. The experience not only showcased their talent but also deepened their appreciation for music as well as getting to spend some quality time with their fellow band members.
The fall marching season roared to life with the band’s electrifying halftime show, helping rally the RedHawk spirit at every home game and pep rally.
From marching drills in the heat of August to perfecting harmonies under the stadium lights, the band’s dedication never wavered.
Winter brought a shift as the band transitioned to concert season, with the Marist Band performing their 59th annual Christmas concert.
“The Christmas show was fun but we were really behind in our songs but we were able to learn them just in time for the show,” said Pursel.
As seniors prepare to graduate, the next generation of leaders is already tuning up. Plans are underway for summer band camp on June 16 – 20.
“To prepare we already have our music for marching next year and will be practicing in the following weeks,” said Pursel.
