The Marist girls wrestling team capped off an incredible season with a standout record of 13-4, going to state for the first time, and proving themselves as a force to be reckoned with both on and off the mat.
Head Coach Kelly Sullivan was the heart of the team always pushing the girls to be their best.
From the very first match to the final showdown, these young athletes displayed unmatched dedication, resilience, and teamwork, making this season one to remember.
“I faced adversity that allowed me to experience new things and ultimately grow as a person,” said junior Samantha Fontaine.
One of the favorite memories shared by the team was winning blood round matches February 28 and March 1, victories that paved their path to state.
Of course, the season wasn’t without challenges.
“During this season I had a lot of people who did not believe I had what it took to adapt to wrestling at a heavier weight,” said Fontaine.
Practices got tougher, but so did the girls. They adapted, supported each other, and came back stronger. The resilience they showed during that time was what truly defined their season.
Looking back, the advice many of the girls would give to the other wrestlers is simple but powerful.
“Trust the process, work hard, and lean on your team,” said junior Shae Halleran.
The Marist girls learned that together, they could overcome anything, whether it was a tough opponent, a losing streak, or their own self-doubt.
A collection of unforgettable moments, and a bond that can’t be broken, the Marist girls wrestling team didn’t just have a successful season — they built a legacy.
“I cannot wait to see just how successful we will be as a full team of returning wrestlers who have proven to be athletic, serious about the sport, dedicated to improvement, and a lot of fun to be around,” said Sullivan.
As they look ahead, they carry not just the wins, but the lessons, the laughter, and the unshakable belief that with heart and hustle, anything is possible.
