The invitation offers participants the chance to “step into a world of creativity and innovation” at Marist’s Annual Senior Art show on May 1. The graduating class is preparing to showcase their hard work from the past year.
This event is aimed at giving seniors appreciation for all of the things that they have made at Marist.
“Since I have been teaching here for over 20 years, we are always showcasing our seniors and it’s just a great way at the end of the year to promote and showcase all the beautiful things that they have done at Marist,” says Art and Technology Department Chair Ms. Rita Hoffmann.
Seniors throughout the years were able to explore different art forms, and find the best fits for them. Some were encouraged to find a passion for art that some did not know they had.
“During these photography courses, I realized the passion I have for photography. I really enjoy taking portraits or pictures of others because their reaction and confidence they gain when they see themselves always makes me smile,” said senior Hannah Hilley.
As well as working on the pieces for the show, students and staff are making other prepartatons.
“My graphic design students created a promotional postcard, we had a vote for best design, and those were printed professionally. They were then handed to students to give to their loved ones so they could come to the show. We are also printing, and mounting, to prepare for the show,” said Hoffman.
While students are showcasing their artwork, they are able to get the chance to explain their pieces.
“I’m mainly preparing for the art show by reviewing old and new work that I did in my photography classes. I want to make sure I know enough about each piece I’ve created and my intentions behind it so that I can talk about it if anybody asks,” said Hilley.
The art show is also a great way for lower classmen or incoming students to see the art opportunities at Marist, and decide if it’s for them.
“I am excited to go to the show since I’ve never been to our school’s art showcase. I hope I see interesting things and all the different pieces that there are going to be,” said freshman Katherine Vincent.
“I’m super excited. I love my seniors, and I am proud of them, and I’ve taught some of them since their sophomore years, so it’s always something we look forward to and is just one of those senior events that we get to hangout and celebrate at the end of the year,” said Hoffmann.
