Spring sport tryouts are underway from February 20 to March 11. Spring sports include baseball, tennis and volleyball for boys, soccer and softball for girls, and rugby, lacrosse, and bass fishing for both.
“I think the hardest part of tryouts is showing up because you do not know what the end result is going to be, but once you get over that you see there is a lot of people in the same boat as you,” says Activities and Athletics Coordinator Nora Doyle.
Her advice?
“Just showing up and being confident, sticking to what you want to do instead of getting worried about the outcome,” she says.
Not knowing what will happen during tryouts can make students nervous as well. Coaches will give information for tryouts in advance to their best abilities.
“I think our coaches do a great job trying to communicate what the criteria is to make our teams,” says Director of Athletics Eric Simpson.
To participate in a spring sport you must have registered and turned in a completed physical form.
“Once students make a team, we get them on a roster and make sure we have sports physicals and registration, which is really important for our students’ safety,” says Simpson.
