Marist is hosting its annual college fair for juniors Thursday, March 13, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Larry Tucker Sportsplex in Palos Heights. At this event, 135 colleges will be represented including prominent, small, private, public, and some selective schools.
“This is a great first step for juniors to start to look at colleges and find out what schools offer in terms of not only their location but also getting access to schools maybe you have never heard of,” said Ronald Dawczak, College and Career Counselor.
Based on its popularity in the past, organizers are anticipating the majority of the junior class and their parents will attend.
“We are hoping for 700 people. This is a great event that gives our students access to many schools in one night, so we expect a big number,” said Dawczak.
This event has been in the works for some time and the counselors have been working hard putting it together.
“We secured the date for this event last year due to many other schools having their fair,” said Dawczak. “Mrs.Peterson and Ms.Culver, who have worked in this role for many years, have built personal relationships with many representatives. So the colleges register to come to our school.”
Juniors registered for this event through Strive Scan, which gives them a barcode to check into the fair, and colleges can scan their barcodes to contact students later.
“Registering for this event was easy and was done during school. Doing this made me excited to go to this event and hopefully have more of an idea on where I want to attend college and what I am interested in the most,” said junior Allison Butler.
