Prom is only a few months away which leaves girls stressed with the question: What am I going to wear?
While prom’s purpose is to be a fun event for high schoolers, it can often be overshadowed by stress and anxiety that build up in the months before prom, specifically for girls finding their dream prom dress.
This is why it is important to take steps that can help in the search. First of all, finding a good group of people to shop with is important, that is, people who will give honest opinions and can make it a fun day.
Trends
With every new season more trends emerge. A new trend has taken over, only starting in 2022 but gaining major popularity. Casual floral sundress prom dresses were suddenly the new dress of the season.
These new waves of dresses are more casual than people are used to seeing at prom. Instead of the usual over the top loud sparkly dresses they look like sundresses.
It’s being met with mixed reviews.
“I do not like it. I feel like people are just trying to be different. The dresses are pretty but not as a prom dress. You look like you are going out to brunch,” says senior Casey Koren.
The brand Sherri Hill has also become a favorite when it comes to purchasing a prom dress. Creator Sherri Hill specializes in formal wear and creates dresses for A-list celebrities all the way to girls in high school.
With their variety and popular name, it is not a surprise that they have been taking over.
“The dresses are expensive but very pretty so they are worth it. They are very in right now and I can see why. I personally got my prom dress from Sherri Hill and I am very happy about that decision,” says senior Emma Harold.
Color
Finding a color can also be a big help when looking for a dress. It is important to remember what colors look best on skin tones.
“I chose crystal blue because it made my eyes pop and I think the color blue makes my features look better,” says Harold.
Picking a color can be difficult for some but already having an idea can help the process when it comes to narrowing down a dress.
“Choosing red for my dress was a no-brainer for me. I love the color and it worked out that the dress I wanted came in red,” says senior Delaney Angus.
Tradition
While some trends come and go, certain dresses always stay chic when it comes to prom. A long ball gown dress has been in style for many years.
Jewelry is also an important part when styling a prom dress. It is important to find jewelry that matches with the color of your dress, along with personal preference.
