The AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs and NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles meet in the Super Bowl February 9. On Super Bowl Sunday, the world will find out what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.
MHS Media conducted a poll of 123 Marist students on who they think will win the Super Bowl and found that 55.3% chose Philadelphia while 44.7% predict the Chiefs will be victorious.
This isn’t the first time these teams have met in the big game. In 2023, Kansas City defeated the Eagles 38-35. The team was led by an excellent performance from quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who ended up winning the Super Bowl MVP.
Mahomes is looking to win his fourth Super Bowl and his third in a row, which is a feat no NFL team has done. The Chiefs drafted Mahomes in 2017 and have made the playoffs in all seven seasons with him as the starting quarterback. He has been electric in the 2025 NFL postseason, throwing for 422 yards and 4 total touchdowns in 2 playoff games.
“Chiefs are gonna win because they have Mahomes and they have won three Super Bowls,” commented one Marist student on the survey.
The Chiefs are led by Head Coach Andy Reid, who has been with the team since 2013. Before coaching Kansas City, Reid was coaching the Philadelphia Eagles, where he made a Super Bowl appearance in 2005.
This is nothing new for him. In 12 seasons with Kansas City, he has led the Chiefs to 11 postseason appearances, nine consecutive division titles, seven consecutive AFC Championship Games, five Super Bowl appearances, and three Super Bowl titles.
But for the Chiefs to make history, they’ll have to defeat the Eagles, who went 14-3 in the regular season. The Eagles are looking to win their second Super Bowl and their first since 2017.
After they fell to the Buccaneers in the first round last year, the Eagles looked to make acquisitions in the off-season. These moves include signing lock-down cornerback CJ Gardner-Johnson, All-Pro linebacker Zach Baun, and most importantly one of the league’s top running backs Saquon Barkley.
On January 26, Barkley led the Eagles to an NFC championship win over the Washington Commanders 55-23 running for 122 yards and 3 touchdowns. In the regular season, Barkley was 100 yards away from holding the record for most rushing yards in a season. Barkley is also the first running back to be nominated for the NFL MVP award since Todd Gurley in 2017.
The Eagles are elite on both sides of the ball and are looking to cause Mahomes trouble with one of the NFL’s top defenses. The Eagles defense allowed the least amount of total yards and passing to opposing teams in the 2024-25 season. Philadelphia had a top defensive line which was top 10 in pass rush win rate being led by Jalen Carter.
“The Eagles have a more well-rounded offense and defense,” said another Marist student on the survey.
After 22 weeks, the NFL is left with two elite teams fighting for the league’s greatest prize. Will Mahomes and the Chiefs make history and become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls? Or will the Eagles get their revenge and take down the dynasty? Only time will tell who will end the season hoisting up the Lombardi trophy.
