The girls’ basketball team is hosting a fundraiser during their home game against St. Viator Saturday, January 11, for a Marist mom suffering from ALS.
Funds will be raised from t-shirt sales and a Heads-or-Tails game during halftime.
The proceeds will be donated to the Flynn family whose mother was recently been diagnosed with ALS. The Flynn family has five children, two of which currently attend Marist High School.
“[The Goal] is to pack the gym and show the Flynn family we are all behind them,” says Jen Harmon, a mother involved with the girls basketball team.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS causes a loss of muscle control and worsens over time.
“[The game] is for a good cause and a great game to come and watch,” said sophomore Grace Harmon.
Entry for the Heads-or-Tails game will cost $5 and the prize will be a $200 gift card basket.
Short sleeve t-shirts cost $20 and long sleeve t-shirts are selling for $25. Orders should be texted to Jen Harmon at 773-550-7001. Please include your last name, phone number, and t-shirt size. Orders are due January 13.
Freshman and JV plays at 1:00, varsity plays at 2:30 in Marist’s main gym.

My husband was diagnosed August 2022. It was hard and I cry daily but not in front of him unless we cry together. He couldn’t find anything to give him happiness or hope. We have been focusing on our faith. He was only losing his voice before we made the decision to try different medications, which significantly enhanced his condition. He received the ALS/MND treatment for his ALS approximately four months ago; since then, he has stopped using a feeding tube, speech is getting better by the day, sleeps well, works out frequently. I’m surprised a lot of CALs, and their PALS haven’t heard of it, google uinehealth centre. com. My husband has become very active
