Marist’s volleyball coach, Jordan Vidovic, was named the National Coach of the Year last week by MaxPreps, the official statistician for the ISHA.
“It’s cool. I don’t really care about it, but every time you get recognized for something like this, it’s an acknowledgment of everything the team accomplished,” said Vidovic.
Last May, the Marist’s boys varsity volleyball team won the IHSA state championship over York High School. Five months later, the girls volleyball team won the state championship with Vidovic at the forefront of both wins. Seven seniors signed their letters of intent, all to Division I schools.
“This puts our program on a higher level because MaxPreps is the national ranking system. It gets us recognized and opens up opportunities for our team and players,” said Vidovic.
As many alums, former players, and old teachers reach out to Vidovic about this amazing accomplishment, his mind is already set on the next thing. Marist alumni Camryn Hannah plays today against Marquette University for the NCAA regional semifinal.
“[The] recognition ceremony at the women’s college final four next weekend in Louisville [is] honoring all the coaches of the year…If one of our former players wins this weekend, I will attend. If not, it’s unlikely,” said Vidovic.
