Marist girls varsity volleyball beat Normal West at Richton Township Monday night to clinch the super-sectionals and punch their ticket to the state championship game.
“We were ecstatic, so excited. We had a really tough route to get downstate. Everybody was thrilled to clear the last couple hurdles,” said Coach Jordan Vidovic.
Before an official shot at state championship game on Saturday, the girls will have to beat 11th-ranked Lockport in the semifinals Friday night. Lockport is 35-5 coming off of a five game win streak.
Although Lockport is a tough opponent, the Marist girls volleyball team is confident.
“We are so ready going into this weekend, the work we have put in so far will carry us a long way and we are hitting a good streak in our season,” says Bella Bullington.
“We have worked so hard for everything, and I think the biggest factor is we all trust each other,” said player Tessa Dowling, junior.
The winning team will of course move on to the State Championship and play the winner of Huntley and Benet Academy. Benet beat Marist earlier this year in a sweep and has collected a few impressive wins throughout the season.
“I think for us, we just want to take that momentum into how we get ready,” said Vidovic. “We are going to put all our efforts forth and focus on ourselves.”
Marist is providing a fan bus to the games on Friday night. Sign ups for the fan bus were due Thursday, November 14.
All students are encouraged to take the trip downstate and cheer on the RedHawks as they compete to add another banner to our gym rafters.
