Gifted is a movie that I have watched repeatedly, and each time I watch it, I am still astounded and in complete awe at this amazing film.
The main character’s acting was absolutely breathtaking in this movie. She was only nine years old when filming, which only makes her emotional scenes even more impressive.
This movie made me laugh and sob all in one. It’s safe to say that there were multiple emotions taking place in Gifted, which is one reason why I love this movie. There were so many scenes that had me on my toes, eager to see what would happen next, but then others had me wiping the tears from my eyes.
The first time I watched this movie was on Prime Video and I was relieved to see that it was free. You can also find this movie on Apple TV, Google Play, and Fandango.
I think that this movie would appeal to either gender. I would recommend Gifted to anybody over the age of 12, because it does have some really heavy scenes and one mature scene. I will say that if your favorite movies to watch are ones that make you cry, Gifted is my number one suggestion for you.
Mary Adler, 7, is a stubborn mathematical genius who is in the first grade. She has never been to a real school. She was homeschooled her whole life, but that changed once her uncle decided that he wanted her to have a normal childhood and make friends at school. This is when Mary’s life begins to drastically change.
The setting of this movie is gorgeous. It takes place in St Petersburg, Florida which is a beautiful coastal town that has palm trees and small, beachy houses. I immediately took an interest in the movie when the very first scene showed the outside of Mary and Frank Adler’s house, which was small, teal, and only one story. If you are obsessed with the beach like me, you’ll love the scenes of Mary running along the shoreline, the sunset scene, etc.
Mckenna Grace is a young actress who has been in a lot of movies, but I have to admit that her acting in Gifted is my favorite. Her crying, scared, disgusted scenes were all perfection. She couldn’t have done a better job at playing the young girl. Chris Evans (Frank Adler) and Grace’s bond off camera was extremely strong, which I think made their uncle-niece relationship in the movie a lot more believable and cute.
The first time I watched Gifted I was 13 years old. I remember once I finished the movie, I immediately wanted to watch it again. Though I have watched at least a dozen other movies, Gifted has remained my favorite ever since the first time I saw it.
I give this movie 5 out of 5 Redhawks. I will never get sick of watching Gifted. It is a beautiful and meaningful film.
