There are many great movies to watch this season that make you feel Halloween fever and the coziness of fall. Here are my top five picks:
Coraline
The first movie is the ultimate stop motion animation, and everyone’s favorite, Coraline.
It is my first pick for anyone who wants to watch a great, nostalgic fall movie with
mystery, thrill, and fantasy.
The interesting thing about Coraline, is that she is a very curious and courageous young girl.
After moving into her new house, Coraline discovers a hidden door in her room that leads to a
whole new world. With her “other mother,” and “other father.”
She is put into her same house, but little pieces of it are different. She sees that the house is less
gloomy, and more exciting and colorful, and so are her parents. Her other mother is very
different from her actual mother because she gives her what she wants and Coraline enjoys that.
This movie is filled with colorful images and amazing animation. The movie may be animated, but it brings a special and unique image into people’s minds. It gives a great sense of fantasy. Not to mention, that the music even brings a whimsical and unique feeling to the movie.
It also does a great job of showing a heroic story centering on a little girl’s life, with her finding out
the truth about where she lives, learning secrets about the other world, and ultimately gaining a
sense of happiness and belonging in her new home. You can watch Coraline on Pluto TV for free.
Corpse Bride
The next choice I have for a fall movie is another stop motion movie, Corpse Bride, directed by
the Halloween legend, Tim Burton.
Corpse Bride is set in a Victorian era village, in the late 1800s. This movie has incredible
themes, such as fantasy, mystery, and love. The movie doesn’t just do good with the plot, but also does very well with the many colors, settings, and soundtrack.
The title fits the story perfectly, as one of the main characters is Emily, who was once a bride, but
mysteriously died on her wedding day years ago. A young man, Victor, was soon to be married
to a woman he just met.
As Victor wanders a forest, nervous about his marriage, he mistakenly puts his wedding ring on
Emily’s finger, causing her to awake from her slumber and emerge from the ground, agreeing for
him to marry her in the underworld.
As the story leads on, we see Emily genuinely wanting to get married to Victor, and Victor trying
to tell her that he needs to go back home to the real world.
The story ultimately ends with Emily going back to the underworld, and forgiving Victor for not
being with her. The story also ends with the solving of a mystery, and a marriage. You can watch Corpse Bride on Disney Plus, Max, or Hulu.
Edward Scissorshands
My next pick for a great fall movie is Edward Scissorhands, once again, directed by Tim Burton.
The movie is about a sales woman, who runs across a creepy mansion that she approaches to sell hair
products.
As she wanders the mansion, she finds a young man with scissors for hands, Edward
Scissorhands. The woman then takes him into her house, and he meets her daughter, and they
end up falling in love though they’re neighbors were deeply afraid of Edward. At the end of the
movie, Edward ultimately finds himself and who he is, and understands that he is not a monster.
You can watch Edward Scissorhands on Disney Plus.
The movie has multiple themes of love, self-discovery, and isolation. The movie does a great job
of showing a tragic love story, character development, and an amazing set design.
Twitches
The next pick for the best fall movies I have is the Disney Halloween classic, Twitches. It is
an amazing movie to watch if you’re in the mood for some comedy, fantasy, and witchy fun.
The movie is about two twin witches separated at birth because of an evil warlock, who finally
discover each other on their 21st birthday. The girls find out the mystery of their birth parents
and their family royalty, and soon find themselves and their true power in the end. You can watch Twitches on Disney Plus or Hulu.
I personally think this movie is a classic, and Disney did amazing with this movie. It brings
nostalgia, and laughter for someone, and it’s especially fit for a fall or Halloween season.
Halloweentown
The last pick for a perfect fall movie is another Disney classic, Halloweentown.
It is about a young girl who discovers that she’s a witch, and so are her parents
and grandmother. Her and her brother then travel with her grandmother to a magical place called
HalloweenTown with mythical monsters and creatures, and solve a mystery of a curse in the
town.
The movie is perfect for Halloween, it’s about monsters and fantasy and is amazing for children
to watch also. You can watch Halloweentown on Disney Plus or Hulu.
