In the never-ending quest to stay hydrated and trendy at the same time, Marists students weigh in on which new water bottle they like the best.
The Stanley cup brand has been around for over 100 years, but has only recently become a universally known brand. Stanley has sold over 10 million quenchers to date and has become a 16 billion dollar brand.
“My Stanley stays colder than any water bottle I have ever tried,” said junior Abby McClorey.
Although many people love their Stanley’s, they have a few deal breaking flaws.
“My Stanley would spill all the time, it would get very frustrating,” said junior Molly Murphy.
The Owala water bottle was created in 2020, but has just become popular within the last 10 months. The Owala offers a variety of colors, just like Stanley, but has a lid unlike the Stanley.
“I like that I can not only use the straw but also tilt the bottle up and drink out of it,” said Murphy.
The Owala creator had a different take on how water bottles should look. It comes in different sizes but has its own unique staple. When someone opens the water bottle and puts it up to their lips, it makes the person look like a koala bear. The lid has an oval/rounded spade to simulate a koala’s nose.
“I think the Stanley is stupid, it’s not practical, and if I walked around with a Stanley it might send people the wrong message,” said senior Mike Philip.
Many people believe that the Owala is more unisex than the Stanley.
Although the Owala water bottle is leak proof, many Owala owners have say their lid gets stuck sometimes.
“Sure my water bottle lid might not always open right away, but I’d rather it take an extra second to open then have to worry about it spilling all the time like the Staley,” said Murphy.
While walking in the Marist halls, girls and guys have so many different colored Stanley’s and Owala bottles.
“I often get compliments on the color of my water bottle because it is such an unpopular color,” said McClorey.
From black to hot pink, the Stanley’s have a wide variety.
“I never have to refill it, it lasts me all day, also I like the little detail of the bear on the cup,” said junior Molly Jullian.
The most popular Stanley amongst Marist students is the 40 ounce cup.
On the other hand, the Owala is only 32 ounces.
The Owala does offer an indent on the two sides for easy carrying while also having a handle on the lid.
The Stanley has a handle while the Owala, which is more oval shaped, does not.
“I like that it has a handle, it’s much easier to hold while I’m walking to and from classes,” said Julian.
“I can just slip it into my backpack and not have to worry about carrying it around,” said Murphy.
Both sides of the story offer a different incentive on what a possible buyer might look for in a water bottle.
“I think both the water bottles are great but I definitely have my favorite,” said McClorey.
