As the 2024 homecoming dance approaches, students at Marist High School are probably wondering what it will look like this year with Ms.Doyle as the new Activities and Athletics coordinator. MHS Media had a chance to talk to her to get those answers.
“There will not be any major changes to homecoming this year. I am still collecting my bearings on the homecoming aspect so next year is the year to try new and exciting things,” said Doyle.
The dance will be Saturday, October 5, in the main gym for juniors and seniors from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Freshman and sophomores had their homecoming dance in the gym last Saturday, September 28.
“The homecoming theme for both dances will be ‘Red Carpet’… to have a little red carpet moment to hype up the dresses and suits,” said Doyle.
Students are also curious if there will be a new DJ this year or if the notorious Mr. Brennan will continue his legacy as Marist’s resident DJ.
“This year’s DJ is the one and only DJ Coach Brennan. He will be on the stage getting the dance crowd going with his setlist,” said Doyle.
The price for admission is $35 dollars a person this year. The proceeds will be used for a good cause.
“Homecoming money is the one fundraising event of the year so the price of the ticket will cover all costs for student activities throughout the rest of the year including Catholic schools week and other exciting days to honor students and faculty. Additionally a small portion of the funds go towards whatever cause the Marist province is supporting that year so as Marist students we are exercising our Marist adventures and helping others,” said Doyle.
The majority of students attend homecoming and enjoy it, but many think the dance has even more potential.
“I do hope homecoming is different this year. The past two years it has been the same thing,” said junior Josie Rogulich. “I’m hoping by next year there will be maybe an activity at the dance,” said Rogulich.
As Doyle has hinted at changes in the future, next year remains to be seen.
