The Marist Varsity Volleyball team is heading to the Durango Fall Classic held in Las Vegas on September 20 and 21. Leading up to the trip, their schedules are packed with conditioning, practices and games.
“We get to put our program side by side with some of the best from California, Nevada, Texas, Kentucky, Florida; pretty much schools across the country,” says Head Volleyball Coach Jordan Vidovic.
“We’re used to everybody being really excited to play us, so our expectations are always pretty automatic,” he says. “People think we’re gonna be one of the better teams so we always get everybody’s best effort and most excitement and most energy they can bring in a game so that’s something we’re always ready for.”
They are 7-1 and are ready to head to Las Vegas this weekend.
Varsity member senior right side Ava Stratton says, “ I feel it’s pretty good our team is strong and we know what we want this year so we’re going after it.”
“I think it’s going good so far, it’s definitely a pretty new team with a lot of new players cause we lost a lot of seniors but I think we’re all still figuring it out and figuring out how to jell together,” says Elise Bocanegra, varsity player.
The program continues to grow year after year.
“All the seniors that graduate, usually leave a lot of things to the new players that get to take over and take the lead and so they get to put their own spin on it, they get to put their own personalities behind it,” says Vidovic. “But the basics, the foundation of what we try to do is continually passed from group to group, from age to age so they know the standard it takes.”
