The Varsity Flag Football Team won the “Battle of Pulaski” game on Wednesday September 4 at the Marist Red and White Stadium. The final score of the game was 19-6, with the Redhawks holding the lead throughout the entire game against Mother McAuley.
Coach McDonough felt extremely proud of the way the game turned out.
“I think the game went well, I think we brought the energy! Our players practiced hard and did exactly what they were told on the field,” said Coach McDonough.
With the first season underway, she thinks Marist has the chance of being one of the top schools for girls flag football on the South Side of Chicago.
“I sure do! That’s why I thought it was so important that we started here, and we could become the pioneers and create this legacy,” said McDonough.
During the game, the RedHawks were able to score three touchdowns alongside an extra point. The defense also held Mother McAuley to one touchdown throughout the entire game.
One of the more memorable plays was made by junior free safety Emily O’Donnell. O’Donnell intercepted the football at the 65 yard line, sped past the other team’s offense, and then scored one of the game winning touchdowns.
“It felt really good. I was more happy that I was able to complete the play and contribute to the game,” said O’Donnell.
