The Marist football student section has weakened over the past few years. This year Coach Michael Fitzgerald wants to change that. He believes it is time for RedHawk fans, known as “Rowdies,” to return and help lead our football players to victory.
The football games are more than just a display of athletic ability. They are a full-blown spectacle of spirited revelry and enthusiasm. When the RedHawks hit the field, the stands transform into a sea of red and white, as fans come alive with an energy that’s impossible to ignore. The RedHawk football games are something every Marist student should experience, but unfortunately, not everyone does.
The benefit of attending football games is the sense of school spirit they generate. Students, parents, and alumni come together to support our team, creating an electric atmosphere that boosts morale.
Watching the players and coaches work together towards a common goal illustrates the importance of collaboration, dedication, and perseverance.
“As a cheerleader, I’m around all the football players and coaches. Hearing and watching everyone work together is one of the best parts of being a Marist cheerleader and student,” said junior Mia Duszynski.
The chants and coordinated cheers to the vibrant student section seem to shake the very foundations of the stadium. Wearing school colors, chanting team slogans, and celebrating victories together gives a sense of belonging that enhances the overall high school experience.
Throughout Marist history, the student section has always been a hit. The RedHawks have grown as a family on game nights. But recently, Marist students have not been showing their school spirit at our football games.
“The Marist football games were what I looked forward to. There was never a Friday night where the red and white side wasn’t hype. I don’t understand how the games aren’t popping right now,” said Mark Dowling ‘96.
Football games can provide an escape from everyday life, allowing students to focus on something they enjoy and take their minds off worries.
While the Marist football team is battling against their opponent, having an entertaining and energetic crowd is always a plus. This collective energy not only motivates the players on the field but also strengthens the bond among students.
“Having a good crowd is awesome and playing in that type of environment really makes it fun for the guys and gets them excited to play,” said Coach Fitz.
If you’re looking to attend Marist football games you can find the schedule on the Marist website and Marist football Instagram.
