The 2024 NBA Playoffs are in full swing, capturing the attention of basketball fans nationwide, including enthusiastic students at Marist High School. As the battle for the championship intensifies, local youths are keenly observing every dribble, pass, and shot.
This year’s playoffs feature a dynamic mix of seasoned contenders and surprising newcomers. The teams that have made it include the Denver Nuggets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Celtics are particularly favored by Marist students, and have significant support from the student body.
“The playoffs have been nothing short of thrilling,” student Brendan Mcmonigal said. “The game between the Lakers and the Nuggets was an absolute nail-biter and showed the incredible talent and resilience of the players…Every match is unpredictable and that’s what makes every game night exciting.”
The NBA holds a special place in the hearts of many Marist students.
“I follow the NBA because it’s not just about sports; it’s about stories of perseverance, teamwork, and overcoming challenges,” said student Matthew Jarmoszka. “It’s more than just basketball…Many players are role models. They show us that with hard work and determination, you can achieve great things.”
With opinions as varied as their favorite teams, the students at Marist have their own predictions for who will claim this year’s title.
“I think the Lakers have a solid shot this year because of Lebron [James],” said Mcmonigal.
Meanwhile, Matthew Jarmoszka said, “The Heat have been underdogs this season, but their recent form suggests they could surprise us all and go all the way.”
“It’s not just about winning or losing; it’s about community, learning, and passion,” said freshman Ryan Banovic.
