The Winter Classic is the National Hockey League’s annual celebration of the new year, featuring teams dueling it out in the elements in historic sports venues such as Fenway Park, Michigan Stadium, and now for the second time Wrigley Field.
The Blackhawks have played in no shortage of outdoor games over the years having already participated in five of them, four of which being the Winter Classic in 2009, 2015, 2017, and 2019 notoriously losing all four with their only win outdoors coming in the 2014 Stadium Series game taking place at Soldier Field against Pittsburgh.
Despite their rough history outside the Hawks are excited to hit the ice in Wrigleyville.
”My last outdoor-game memory was playing outdoor hockey when I was a kid, so it’s an exciting opportunity,” said Hawks head coach Luke Richardson.
The puck will drop on the north side on January 1, 2025 leaving plenty of time for sports fans to prepare themselves for this heated rivalry to make its way back to the classic Wrigley Field.
