The Marist cafeteria has plenty of options for students to eat during their lunch periods. The amount of choices allows each student to pick something they enjoy.
MHS Media surveyed about 350 Marist students and discovered that about 37% of students eat the school lunch daily, 14% bring food from home, and 38% alternate between both options. The most popular items that students buy during lunch are wraps and chicken tenders.
Marist’s lunchroom is unique compared to other schools around the area. The cafe has all types of affordable food and drinks for students. Also, the cafeteria is divided into different sections that vary from healthy salads and paninis. to slushes and chocolate chip cookies.
“I know that Marist lunch is way better than what I used to have when I went to high school,” said Marist cafeteria worker Marybeth Gannon.
Nutrition is essential when choosing the right foods to eat during lunch. According to the MHS Media survey, most students also believe the Marist Pub has the healthiest food options in the cafeteria.
“I would say a salad with vegetables, grilled chicken, wraps, and soup are the healthiest options,” said Gannon.
The Marist Pub is in front of the cafeteria and has burrito wraps, salads, rice bowls, and paninis. What makes the Marist Pub unique is that all their items are customizable. The variety allows students to pick and choose what they want rather than eating a pre-made meal.
“I enjoy getting wraps at Marist because it’s a healthier lunch option and is a good amount of food for the price,” said Marist student Brooke Colon.
Most students get their lunches in the main cafeteria line. According to the MHS survey, the average of 320 responses show that the students who go through the regular lunch line typically get pasta, fries, chicken tenders, or pizza.
Also unique to Marist is a new special every day. The lunch staff rotates specials daily so students can try something new instead of getting the same thing all the time. The specialties vary from all types of foods that students wouldn’t be able to eat on an ordinary basis.
“I like the school specials at lunch because they always have different tasty food for us to try, and most of the time, they are delicious,” said Marist student Cassidy Cerant.
The school cafeteria also offers the Fuel Station. It has on-the-go snacks and treats for students: cookies, slushes, candy, and more. Students usually go to the Fuel Station to grab a quick snack during lunch if they aren’t feeling as hungry.
“I like the fueling station because it gives me a variety of snacks to choose from,” said Marist student Elise Bocanegra.
