Marist boys varsity basketball took on St Patrick’s at Marist High School on Tuesday, November 28. Marist won 57 to 32 in a motivating win for the team, playing at home for the first time.
Marist basketball was ranked number eight in Illinois, coming into this game against Saint Pat’s. Saint Pat’s was ranked number 21 in the state. Most people thought that this game was going to be a very close one, but that was not the case.
“I feel like we played great, we played as a team, we all played together and played like we wanted to win,” said sophomore forward Stephen Brown. Brown had nine points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks in the win. He is considered the future of this young Marist team.
“We were all really locked in and hard on each other because we expect so much from each other,” said senior forward Darshan Thomas. Thomas, who transferred to Marist from Fenwick this past year, had 14 points against St. Pat’s. He is one of two seniors on the team, so he is looked upon as a leader.
Some of the other key players in this win were Adoni Vassilkis, who had 20 points; Marquis Vance, who had six points and five rebounds; and T.J. Tate, who had four points and six assists.
“Our kids played so hard. They were more worried about the name on the front of their jersey than the name on the back,” said Marist head boys varsity basketball Coach Hynes. He always pushes these kids to ensure they are playing their best.
“The atmosphere was great. We love playing at home,” said Hynes. The student section at Marist was packed and they were very loud right from the opening tip.
Marist’s next game is at Benet Academy Friday, December 15.
“The goal is to win every single game and make our way to state,” said Brown.
