The club has been working on it since the beginning of the year, and their first episode aired October 20. One of the goals is for students to grow, learn, and get more experience in the broadcasting industry.
Club moderator Susan Carlson said, “This is what I envisioned when I came here, as to what I wanted to do with the club. This will give our students here a chance to put together some creative segments.” Carlson has had this idea for the broadcasting club since last year, her first year of teaching at Marist. With her 20-plus year background in journalism and broadcasting, there is a bright future for the Marist broadcasting program.
Separate from the regular newscasts produced in class, MHS Studio Magazine is being produced as an extracurricular activity. The show focuses on the lighter and more entertaining part of the news, consisting of sports, student/faculty interviews, and a whole new segment called, “Marist After Hours.”
Carlson said, “As history has proven, Marist students are very creative and I look forward to what’s to come.” Carlson plans to give students growing control. To begin with, she is giving them a structure and format to follow but hopes that they will quickly take control of the production.
