Marist administrators encourage students, faculty, and staff to embrace this year’s pillar, family spirit.
The Marist brothers established five pillars (family spirit, presence, simplicity, love of work, and in the way of Mary) to stand as guiding principles for all of their schools and reminders about how to treat each other.
“Family spirit really kind of talks about coming together as a family and looking out for one another,” said Principal Meg Dunneback.
By choosing a pillar, the administration sets the tone for the school year. The annual tradition continuously rotates among the five.
“We started with family spirit and now we’ve gone through all five. It’s year six and we are now back to family spirit. It was our first pick,” said Dunneback.
She believes that she has already seen students embracing this pillar.
“I actually have seen kids in the hallway looking out for freshmen, which is really nice,” said Dunneback.
Every student is expected to uphold this pillar in their own way.
“We would love it if kids look for signs of family spirit and stop by and tell me about it,” said Dunneback.
